I have written a gratitude list daily for the last fifteen years. Why? Because what we focus on grows. If I think about what is going right in my life more than what isn't, more good things will flow to me. If I'm in a negative state, everything annoys me, even neutral things.
Writing down good things, like my health, the health of my children and others that I love, the support of friends, the food on my table, the smell of coffee in the morning helps me realize that my life is going well. Sure there are bumps in the road and difficult periods but generally and just for today, I'm okay.
Having a list of good things helps me on a bad day too. I can review my lists and remember that life is full of ups and downs so tomorrow I'll probably feel better than I do today.
Buy a nice book to write in—something special, just for you. Make it a morning ritual. You will see that writing a list like this will start your day off in a positive direction.
